Urea
Description
Deze Urea is een vocht aantrekkende stof (humectant) bij lage doseringen (3-5%), dat kan worden toegevoegd in zelfgemaakte verzorgingsproducten zoals serums en crèmes om deze hydraterender te maken. Het komt van nature voor in urine en zweet. Het poeder zelf ruikt hier niet naar.
Allantoïne is een sterker geconcentreerd alternatief voor Urea - 0,2% allantoïne is gelijk aan 10% urea.
Het is oplosbaar in water, en het meest stabiel bij een pH van 6.2. Bij een lagere pH ontbind het in ammoniumcyanaat en daarna naar ammonium en CO2. Deze reactie wordt versnelt bij het verwarmen. Urea moet dus in de afkoelfase worden toegevoegd.
Interessant feitje: urea is de eerste stof ooit (1828) die gesynthetiseerd is in een lab.
